RESOURCE MATERIAL :

KEY WORDS:

Random Experiment, Sample Space (S), Event (E), Equally Likely Outcomes, Favourable Outcomes, Mutually Exclusive Events, Non-Mutually Exclusive Events, Exhaustive Events, Equally Likely Events , Independent Events , Dependent Events, Complementary Events, Conditional Probability.

PROCEDURE

Start the session by asking the questions related to the sample space, experimental and theoretical probability. Now introduce the topic conditional probability step by step as follows.

Explain the Conditional Probability :

If E and F are two events associated with the same sample space of a random experiment, the conditional probability of the event E given that F has occurred,  is given by

Explain the multiplication theorem on probability and help the students in implementing these results in the problems.

If A and B are two events associated with a random experiment, then

equation

Now explain the terms Independent events, Mutually Exclusive events and the difference between these two.
Now explain the concept of total probability and implement these results is different problems.

Let S be a sample space and let E1, E2, E3, ………, En be n mutually exclusive and exhaustive events
If A is any event then :

equation
Explain the Baye’s Theorem and help the students in implementing this theorem in different problems.

Let S be a sample space and let E1, E2, E3, ………, En be n mutually exclusive and exhaustive events associated with a random experiment.

If A is any even which occurs with E1 or E2 or E3 or ……or En

equation

Define random variable : It is a real valued function whose domain is the sample space of a random experiment.
Now explain the probability distribution of a random variable.
Now explain the Mean and Variance of a random variable and use these results to solve the problems.

STUDENTS DELIVERABLES:

  • Review questions given by the teacher.
  • Students can prepare the presentation on basic concepts of probability.
  • Solve NCERT problems with examples.

EXTENDED LEARNING:

Students can extend their learning in Application of Integrals through the  RESOURCE CENTRE
students can also find many interesting topics on mathematics at cbsemathematics.com

ASSESSMENT TECHNIQUES:

  • Assignment sheet will be given as home work at the end of the topic.
  • Separate sheets which will include questions of logical thinking and Higher order thinking skills will be given to the above average students.
  • Re-test(s) will be conducted on the basis of the performance of the students in the test.

Competency based assessment can be taken so as to ensure if the learning outcomes have been achieved or not. e.g.

  • Puzzle
  • Quiz
  • Misconception check
  • Peer check
  • Students discussion
